Open country is how I would describe Wyoming. It is easy to imagine cowboys riding the hills and plains here. In fact, that was the initial excitement upon entering this state ... we found a horse!
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
Sorry ... no picture of Mechanic Man. That's not his type of "horsepower." ;-)
VORE BUFFALO JUMP
Right alongside I-90 in Wyoming is the site where Indian tribes would trap bison in the natural sink hole. Bones and artifacts were found there as well.

DEVILS TOWER
Since we simply wanted to see this geological feature (and not hike any trails near or around it since we were in transit to Cody), we found a great place for pictures and then continued on.
The tower is 865 feet high and was designated as our nation's first national monument in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt. It has many legends behind it and was even part of a 1978 movie: Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
CODY
We spent a few days in this town, camping along the Shoshone River.
We also attended Mass at the town's church that is similarly named as our previous parish. :)
Cody is named after Buffalo Bill.
OLD TRAIL TOWN
We stepped back in time and visited the old buildings of the west where Buffalo Bill (William Cody) laid out the original town of Cody. There are other cabins here that were used by Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid and the "Hole in the Wall" gang.
We tried our hands at roping with a lasso!
CODY CATTLE COMPANY
Knowing that we wanted to experience the west, we celebrated Fathers' Day here.
The dinner and show (followed by the rodeo afterwards) was the highlight of our time in Cody! The chuckwagon buffet was all you can eat and delicious, but the music of Triple C Cowboys was the icing on the cake! The band members are award winners individually, and together they entertain with comedy and toe-tapping, hand-clapping, yahoo-ing music! Children are invited to participate on stage a few times. In fact, Youngest Child was the dinner-bell ringer!

RODEO
The rodeo is a part of life in Cody. In fact, it is an elective in high school! Some local students will be heading to national competition. Lucky for us, we are in the Rodeo Capital of the World with performances every night during the summer. We enjoyed watching bucking broncos, bull rides, and barrel racing for 2 hours.
Before the show started, the announcer prayed and then we all stood for the Star-Spangled Banner as the American flag was displayed on horseback. Thankfully, the prayers were heard since nobody was hurt even though we gasped a time or two. ;-)
Let the excitement begin!

Lovely sunset on a fun-filled day ...
