Traveling up the state of Iowa and across the southern
portion of Minnesota provided many hours of observations along Interstate 90.
Again, fields and fields of corn and other crops …. more turbines .... flat terrain for as far as the eye could see. :)
Caterpillar Visitor Center near Peoria would be an interesting visit out here in America's Breadbasket.
Minnesota .........
More fields and fields of crops as we headed westbound on I-90!
Saw a sign for a 60-foot Jolly Green Giant [a nickname my grandmother used when she needed me to get her something off of a high shelf! :) ]
Passed the Golden Spike Marker in Blue Earth, Minnesota
We didn't see either of those soon enough to visit, though; and who wants to turn around on an interstate highway??
**********************
We had planned to visit the Mississippi headwaters at Lake Itasca, but it was an 8-hour trip out of the way. So, that will be something to do in the far
future since we are eager to visit the National Parks.
Instead, Interstate 90 westbound was our new route once we entered
Minnesota. Stopping at a truck stop for
gas, we ate our lunch. The kids enjoyed
a “mini – soda” (play on words) as well. Another state visited as we tally them up!
SOUTH DAKOTA, here we come!!!
A few hours later, we stopped in Mitchell, South Dakota, for the evening. Mitchell is home to the world-famous Corn Palace .
We all enjoyed our first swim of the summer as well in the pool right near our campsite!
