Our route east from Nebraska continued through Iowa briefly
and then into Missouri where we spent a night.
It’s been a while since we all visited this state, only this time it was
in a different area and many years ago.
Worried that the
campgrounds would be full during the holiday weekend, we purposely searched
along the major highways; and thanks be to God, there was always a spot
available for us. We stayed in a town
named St. Joseph while in Missouri. (There
is definitely a saint watching over us!)
We haven’t had to camp
in any Walmart parking lots yet this trip --- which is a goal of the three kids
since we have done that on previous trips.
;-) The weather was cool enough
so that we could have, though!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Rain has been what we enjoyed the entire trip eastward. The weather had been favorable the entire trip westward, and
the rainy weather eastward kept the temperatures down. No complaints because we know what was
awaiting us in the south!
Passing through Missouri from west side to east side, we
noticed that the state has roads with letter names. We never saw that anywhere else before.
We also spotted a sign for a Walter Cronkite memorial. We remember him as an
icon of the ‘80s and ‘90s!
Next state to enter into by crossing the Mississippi River
was Illinois (again), but this time we
were on the southern/central end, heading south. Even the southern part of the state is full
of cornfields!
One set of cornfields had
signs along the side that broke down the Hail Mary prayer into sections; so
as we read each sign, we prayed the prayer!
Cool!
We even stopped for lunch at an area near cornfields!
Yes, cornfields all day -- as far as our eyes could see!
We settled down for the night near the
Kentucky border in a lovely wooded campground to the tune of a tornado watch
since it was still raining!
